Nostalgic Birthday Cake

Equipment

  • Long loaf bread pan

Ingredients

For the cake:

  • 1 cup (240 ml) canola oil
  • 1 cup (200 grams) granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup (140 grams) chocolate milk powder ( like Nesquik or Ovaltine) 
  • 200 ml sour cream
  • 1 cup (140 grams) rising flour or 1 cup of all-purpose flour mixed with 1 teaspoon (6 grams) of baking powder
  • Butter or natural oil for greasing the pan

Chocolate frosing:

  • 1/2 cup (100 grams) granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup (50 grams) butter
  • 2 Tablespoons (30ml) milk
  • 2 Tablespoons (20 grams) cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For decoaring:

  • sprinkles or any candy of your choice

Instructions

The cake:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F /180°C.
  • In a large bowl mix together oil and sugar.
  • Add eggs, chocolate milk powder, sour cream, and rising flour.
  • Heavily grease the pan with oil or butter.
  • Pour the batter into the pan and bake for about 45-55 minutes, until the cake is firm, and a toothpick comes out almost completely dry (with moist crumbs). Cool completely before frosting.

Frosting:

  • Heat all the frosting ingredients until the mixture turns into smooth chocolate syrup.
  • Pour over the cake. Let it sit for 10 minutes, be generous with the sprinkles!
